TIPS FOR TRAVELLING SAFELY

Location: The airport is situated 10 miles (16km) north of Bucharest.

Time: Local time is GMT +2 (GMT +3 from last Sunday in March to second last Saturday in September).

Contacts: Tel: + 40 (0)21 204 1200.

Transfer between terminals: A free bus links the two terminals.

Transfer to the city: An express bus service 783 leaves every 15 minutes for the city centre (for a detailed bus route map ); the journey takes around 40 minutes. It would be advisable to get off at Victoria Square - Piaţa Victoriei, and either take a cab or the subway to the Northern Train Station – Gara de Nord - from where you have to take the train to Galaţi. Either way it is very close. You have to make sure that you are in Piaţa Victorie 2 and choose M1 according to the following subway route map.  Here are some more tips:

Prices for the subway tickets:
- 2 trips ticket: 2 RON (20,000 old LEI) - about 0,55 EURO
- 10 trips ticket: 6,5 RON - about 1,76 EUR
- daily pass: 3 RON - about 0,81 EUR
-  monthly pass: 20 RON - about 5,4 EUR

Tickets can be found in every subway station, at cashiers (no automatic vending for the moment). Rush hours inside the Bucharest metro system are in the morning (7-8 am), when people go to work and in the evening (6-8 pm), when people come from work.

Taxis and Sky Services minibuses are also available 24 hours to take passengers anywhere in Bucharest or to any other region in the country. Naturally, the fastest way is by taxi; it should cost 45 - 70 RON (15 - 20 EUR). From the airport take only taxis operated by a company named Fly Taxi; before boarding any cab, check thoroughly to see if it actually has the FlyTaxi logo and a taximeter.
Refuse any people that approach you inside the airport and offer transportation, they will rip you off massively (you may end up paying hundreds of euro for the trip to the train station) as they are not authorized taxi drivers. You may also book a taxi at the following local taxi companies  Cobalcescu Taxi - phone: 9451 or Mondial Taxi - pnone: 9423.

Car rental: Car rental companies include Budget, Europcar and Hertz.

Facilities: There are banks, bars and restaurants at the airport. Other facilities include a bureau de change, left luggage, a hairdresser, business facilities (fax and internet), duty-free shops and a post office. Disabled facilities are good; those who need a wheelchair or have other special requirements should contact their airline in advance.

Parking: Parking is available.
